Finished painting 2 Matilda II's - my first Bolt Action minatures

It's taken several days but I've finished my first Bolt Action units - two Matilda II tanks. Painted as late 1941/42 desert. Technically they should be in Caunter Camouflage but that's way too hard for me.

Every paint and shade below the line for my future reference. I used the Vallejo undercoat spray can because no one seems to sell the Army Painter undercoat, and this was a better colour I think. I used mostly Army Painter Speedpaintd 2.0 for the base layer and Citadel dry's for drybrushing (because I have had them for years before, and no one else seems to sell dry paints). Finished in the Vallejo Matt Varnish.

Contrast paint

Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Pale Bone base over the undercoat of Vallejo Bonewhite spray can

Undercoat compared to base coat

Not sure why they ended up slightly different

Wash of 50% Army Painter Quickshade Soft Tone and 50% Army Painter Quickshade Wash Mixing Medium

Dry Brush with Citadel Hexos Palesun

Gun tubes painted Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Grim Black

Engine Exhaust covers painted Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Howling Sand

Not really sure it makes much of a difference really.

Lights Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Holy White

Antenna and tools Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Broadsword Silver

Treads in Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Dark Wood

Bottom kit in Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Camo Cloak

Tank Commander skin in Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Crusader Skin

Smoke Launchers in Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Satchel Brown

Upper blanket in Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Algae Green

Finished the treads in Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Dark Wood

TC's uniform in Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Satchel Brown

I suspect this is too dark, the actual uniform would have faded a bit.

Leather straps in Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Hardened Leather

Gunners site in Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Broadsword Silver

TC's Beret in Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Grim Black

Head lights in Army Painter Speedpaint 1.0 Zealot Yellow

This is one of the few Speedpaint 1.0's I used, and it was not a success. It's very much orange not yellow. I don't I'll trust these much. I need to replace them with Speedpaint 2.0's.

Wooden part of tools in Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Dark Wood

I'm pretty sure I've painted some tools in Broadsword silver that should have been wood and vice versa. :(

I painted this tanks spare track links in Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Grim Black, but should have used Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Dark Wood instead! :(

Rear lights in Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Blood Red

I'm not actually sure if this IS the rear lights or a telephone box the Australian army put on the back for the Pacific, but it makes more sense to me to be rear lights.

Straps for the tools in Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Hardened Leather

Washes

Army Painter Quickshade Mid Brown over the TC's uniform

Army Painter Quickshade Strong Tone for the tracks

Army Painter Quickshade Dark tone for the TC's beret

Army Painter Quickshade Military Shader for the blankets and kit

Army Painter Quickshade Flesh Wash for the TC's skin

Army Painter Quickshade Dark Tone for the wireless mount and tools

Washes complete

Drybrushing

Citadel Sylvane Bark for the TC's uniform

Citadel Niblet Green for the Blankets and Kit

The Citadel Necron Compound is supposed to be...dry. But this was too much. I tried adding some mediam to it but it didn't help. This stuff is as old as a Necron dynasty.

Tracks drybrushed with Citadel Necron Compound

Tank drybrushed again with Citadel Hexos Palesun

Final cover with Vallejo Matt Varnish. It was VERY shiny when put on but faded with drying
