Took them long enough, for a range called ARMY PAINTED that did not have actual army colours.
Unfortunately its not a Speedpaint!
A web log of my historical wargaming. Mostly devoted to Field of Glory Napoleonic 2nd edition, Glory is Fleeting, OATHMARK: BATTLES OF THE LOST AGE, Rangers of Shadow Deep, Black Powder, Bolt Action and BATTLETECH.
Took them long enough, for a range called ARMY PAINTED that did not have actual army colours.
Unfortunately its not a Speedpaint!
There are two wings to the army. Each has one 9 man veteran engineer rifle unit, one 5 man Bren Gun unit, one Matilda II tank, and one inexperienced platoon commander there to give +2 morale.
Each veteran engineer rifle squad is directly supported by the Bren Gun team and a tank. The veteran's can advance out of cover if needed.
I have a reserve of 2 Bren Gun carriers. One has a 5 man veteran assault unit with 2 SMG's and 3 rifles. It will act as a counter attack unit or a reserve where I need them. The other has a veteran Anti-tank rifle team to zoom to the enemy flank or back line and get flank shots on enemy armour. Being veteran's mean they won't have to worry about getting in cover as much, as they'll spend at least one turn jumping out of the carriers.
In the middle I have a light mortar dropping smoke or a shell onto static enemy defenses like Machine Guns and Artillery, and a medic to support one of the wings. The Medic can run around and still supply his 6+ save. An artillery spotter deploys somewhere where needed, ideally well away from enemy snipers, as it's only a 2 man crew.
In fact I should probably put the FO in the 2nd carrier with the AT rifle team. Can't be sniped and can still call in artillery, though it would probably need the carrier on the field instead of reserve.
Each rifle unit has multiple's of 9, to gain the benefit of Rapid Fire, at least until any casualties start. most of the infantry that will be out in the open are veteran's and have a 5+ toughness.
I'm not too worried about only having 15 order dice. Having more than that is excruciating to keep standing up to move another unit.
I've also ordered some 1 inch 5 man spacing movement trays from Battle Kiwi who seem to be the only person selling them, anywhere planet-wide. Which is weird, I want 2,3,5,8 and 10 man trays to speedup movement!
In other news I found lots (but sadly not all, they were missing about 1/3 of them) Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 and fanatic paints at Metro Hobbies, so I can now finish the existing figures I have with colours for weapon types on the back of their bases. And I can start painting my Battlemechs for BATTLETECH.

So I spent a lot of time over the holiday watching ALL of the Team Fortress 2 Meet the Team videos and I found STL files for tabletop miniatures for them at https://www.thingiverse.com/flyingpenguin/designs and downloaded the file.
And Now I Want To Build A Bolt Action Army based on it. Degree of Difficulty : I can't print 3D models. Also: I would need to quote one of the above videos every time I move or roll one of the figures, possibly causing my opponent to throttle me.
Engineer: Engineer Infantry.
Sentry bots: MMG, HMG and Medium Mortar. The Dispenser is part of the crew and loader for LMG.
Sniper: The Sniper.
Heavy Weapons Guy: Squad LMG.
Scout: 2nd and 3rd runners for platoon and company commanders.
Solider: Basic rifleman. Probably have to take as late war Germans so 4 of the 5 men in the squad can carry a panzerfaust.
Demoman: Grenade Launcher or Light Mortar.
Spy: Artillery Spotter, Platoon and Company Commanders.
Medic: Medic.
Pryo: Flamethrower.
Trucks: Unarmed lorries.
Objectives: The Red and Blue Briefcase, The Sandvitch, Archimedes the Pigeon, teleporter out and in.
In other news, my wonderful partner got me the Bolt Action V3 rules. YAY!

Guess I'll wait till MilSims get a copy I can buy.
Duty and Honour and Beat to Quarters are two role playing games that appear to be Sharpe the role playing game. There is also Dragon Brigade: Opening Salvo from Dragonlance fame Margaret Weis.
I shall have to acquire them.
I'm reading Wellington as Military Commander and I can see how you could make it a Fantasy RPG.
Imperial Elves (as the French) invading the traditional and hidebound and stubborn Dwarfs (Spanish) Peninsula while a small Human contingent from Bad Cav Island come to help their ancient Half Elf allies (of Portugal). Ancient Fortresses and hidden dungeons fill a land full of lurking dangers and ancient secretes. Adventure...awaits!
Combined Army list and rules: Glory is Fleeting: Wargames Rules and Army Lists for the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars
All on Amazon.com.au. Amazon.com lists as out of stock at this time.
Both the rules and army lists are in PDF format on the Glory is Fleeting Facebook group
And I get a small mention in the acknowledgment as a thank you! Beats being in the back of a kickstarter pledge list!

It does not look like that yet |
I have always wanted a gaming table. When I was young we had a small pool table that worked well for it's time, even if dice would fall down the holes.
For $500 I now own an example like the one above- the seller is upgrading to a Wormwood one (if it ever arrives. I hope he gets it delivered)!
It's not a proper 6x4 foot wargaming table with the well, but it's close enough for solo play, and the lid on makes it actually wider, though 5 inches too short.
But it's now MINE.
Had 4 hours of travel and I could not have done it without being given a blanket and straps to get in a Bunnings ute. I need to get them back tomorrow, put the bolts in and AWAY WE GO. Pity I don't have anyone I could invite over to use it, but I think I'll make it go high with a deep well so I can pause wargames any time I want for solo play.
Got the ute back with 4 minutes to spare. Whew.

6 foot x 3 foot of gaming area | ' |
It's 1/10 the price of a gaming table of my dreams, and not the regulation 6ftx4ft proper wargaming table, but I can fit it, and maybe afford it.
Not enough room to actually PLAY pool, but that's not them point.
You and me are just passing through history.
This...this IS history. Came out in 1974-76. Picked up at the swap meet at House of War, which I was wish was 10 minutes closer to home so I could maybe play wargames there. AFAIK they are the largest wargame store in Melbourne, with the largest Dragon too.
Question I've always had - if Napoleonic was book 4, and WW2 book 15...what were the other Airfix ones???
I hope I can learn some better tactics from these! |
And they were only $5 each!
It's very large and impressive |
Computer Moderated Wargame Rules
I'm really confused on how this thing works, but it appears to be a way to get the PC to handle doing a campaign, and it can be used solo.
How to setup a solo scenario for a wargame table:
There's a lot of work to set the units up. The webpage is...grognad hell circa 1997. It does not support DOS. You order it via email(!). To a Hotmail account.
Grand Tactical Game.
Grand Tactical module is included at no extra cost.
The Grand Tactical module allows you to play against one or more opponents in the aproach moves that lead to a battle. The players deploy their commands in a landscape with terrain generated by the computer and then move towards a tabletop area marked in the centre of the table. During this Grand Tactical movement, commander ability, encounters with the enemy, difficult terrain and the excessive crowding of friendly commands can all contribute to delays and mishaps. When enough commands have entered the tabletop area the system declares the battle ready to start and exports the armies ready for battle. Commands that have not reached the tabletop area are set to flank march and appear later during the battle (you hope!). A Tactical Map of the battlefield with computer generated terrain and initial starting point for each command is provided for you to print and use as an aid to initial deployment. You now import the armies into the battle module and you are ready to fight the battle!
The whole thing seems rather ridiculous and peak-Grognard, but I will see if I can get a reply or order it.
Field of Glory: Napoleonic is getting a 3rd edition. There is a lot of changes that make the game clearer, faster and more Napoleonic (skirmishing now actually is a thing as opposed to giving your units but I note the rules now fix the nearly all the issues I have complained about.
Troops can now leave entrenchments! You can get cheap crappy
commanders who need to be kicked by their corps commander to do
something. Skirmish troops now act in their own little shooting round
and the winner of that combat gets an advantage in closing on the enemy.
Artillery also has it's own shooting round to provide support for the
infantry moving up. Probe missions give intelligence that allow you to
have knowledge of the enemies strategy. Entrenchments can be used on the
attack (I imagine for placing artillery or defenders of your Line of
Communications). Lancers are both more dangerous but also more fragile.
There's about 20 pages of designer's notes on what and why they changed
things.
The firing table is now looking worse and is as clear as the smoke of a
battalion of infantry firing all weapons, but otherwise the rules look a lot better. .
Hopefully I can get a game of it and give a battle report.
I ordered a Crusader II from Warlord Games and decided to order a Small Supply crate of RANDOM STUFF Warlord wants to be rid of.
Some of them I actually liked to get!
A famous Native American(?) hero. Could use him in Silver Bayonet. |
WTF the League of Fatties Kit?!?! Maybe a boss for the Silver Bayonet Steampunk? |
Ghar Outcast Rebel Attack Crawlers. Looks like something Necronish. Not sure what I could use it for. |
3 turret armed Boltan Paul Defiant's. Not hugely useful even as a TTI Target Tug! I don't think I'd use them even if I DID have Blood Red Skies. |
C3 Support team with Plasma Bombard. 4 sorta Necron figures with a support weapon. Not hugely useful. |
Spring Grass flock. I needed some of this colour. |
5 Native American Bowmen. Could be used for Rangers of Shadow Deep or a Oathmark ranger unit. |
Yak 1 character for Blood Red Skies. More female units is nice, even if I don't play the game or the Yak 1 isn't very good either. |
British Napoleonic Paint kit- I actually needed this for Black Powder and Epic Scale Black Powder. |
Fully wrapped up in a mystery box in a mystery box is a fully painted...Bi-plane? |
Can anyone identify the make and nationality? |
3 Mythic America Sapa Emporer on Jade Tigers(?). Might make a useful cavalry for Oathmark (not enough for a unit though) or Rangers of Shadow Deep |
3 fantasy characters (maybe a Druid and 2 fighters?). Might work for Rangers of Shadow Fell or as a wizard for Oathmark. |
One Sprue of Highlanders for Epic Scale Black Powder. I wanted this too! |
12 Numidian Skirmishers. I can use them as an Oathmark human spearmen unit. I have a SPQR boxed set too. |
Sachem Warlord of War Eagle. Not really use able for Oathmark but might work as a boss for Rangers of Shadow Deep. |
What I actually wanted. |
So I saw this on Warlord's website and had a sudden attack of IT MUST BE MINE.
I've wanted some heavy infantry and spearmen for my Oathmark army I just started putting together. And I've always wanted a Roman army. And the game is small so it can hopefully be played solo easier.
There is a LOT of negative comment about the 1st edition of SPQR that came out in 2019. So much so, Warlord is giving AWAY the new rulebook to every new boxed set of units! It must have been pretty bad, I hope they spent some time to actually playtest and work on the game this time.
I'm also getting some Roman officers to maybe use in my Oathmark units to help match them up as an army. Later on I need some catapults and cavalry, and using early Roman Cavalry would work for that too.
I might cut off the plumes from their heads though. And get a standard bearer that can put a flag on.
https://boardgametoday.com/warlord-games-announces-epic-battles-american-civil-war/
This is going to be a game changer. Napoleonics is going to explode when they release it
Thank you to my amazing wife for pre-ordering it!
I have ordered the remaining army I need for my FOGN British Peninsula army from Stonewall Figures.
Cost is about $450, plus the $200 I did previously. So about $250 per division.
This will give me 800 points I hope and all I need to do is wash, base, flock and flag them. And I need to paint Generals and ADC's. I plan on using AB figures from Eureka Miniatures.
I'd still want some KGL Calvary, Royal Horse Artillery, Horse Guards and another 2 brigades of line infantry, but that can wait.
