So I was reading r/boltaction and read somewhere you MUST take at least 2 vehicles in a tank platoon, so it actually IS a tank platoon.
...So I can't do just one Matty. But I read in an excerpt from the book on the The Battle of Bardia that they DID have 2-pounder portee's (a light anti-tank gun on the back of a truck because it's too much trouble to take if off every-time you want to shoot something) and it DOES increase my anti-tank guns by doubling it. The Portee would come in from reserve or the flank with the rifle platoon to support them and the carriers with some better than AT Rifle penetration shots.
The Matilda II is now inexperienced to better reflect that most of them didn't show up for Day 2 of the assault, and losing a track 2 miles from the start line was a very common occurrence. I think they started the assault with 70+ and by day two had 12 runners left. So this also means it needs to start on the field supporting the engineers on turn 1.
It would make more sense to have the slow Matty come on at the start of the game and have the much faster non-armored truck with AT gun come on afterwards so it's better able to get a flank shot and have less enemy troops firing back. And any AT guns will want to target the carrier platoon too instead of the Portee that does not have a machine gun or a 5 man rifle squad inside.
I'm pretty sure there were no Vickers light tanks at Bardia, they would have been patrolling towards Tobruk. So I can't bring a .50cal machine gun :(
And I have to lose the Company Commander. He's a lot of points and there goes my dream of getting every armored vehicle moving in one command dice pick. But I've made the other platoon commanders regular and got a medic to stay with the engineers so they have a 1-in-6 extra ability to stay on the field a bit longer. I could get 2 more platoon runners but I like the fluffyiness of being able to call for stretcher bearers (so I had to get two of them).
I also upgraded the 30 CWT truck to regular - there are missions where you need to bring nearly EVERYONE on from reserve and being able to bring on a full strength engineer squad or two of the 5 man rifle squads may be useful.
The AT rifle down went down to inexperienced - the fluff reason is they don't know where to shoot enemy tanks because they haven't been playing WW2OL for two decades. Getting a full AT gun is better and they will be with the rifle platoon commander in one of the carriers that also has a Boys AT rifle too with the 2-Pounder Portee with them, and the reserve roll with be the regular carrier they are in too, with the platoon commander being next to them.
...I hope I get the rules with the army lists for Christmas.
